My wife and I are very avid hikers and I&#x27;ve been using an Outdoor Research (OR) UPF hat for hiking (the OR hat is the exact same style as the SmartWool hat). The reason I bought the SmartWool hat is that my OR hat is a little too rigid on the brim so when I&#x27;m hiking and I go to look up I find it keeps hitting the back of my pack and I found it a bit bulky even though it is a hiking hat. I decided to order the SmartWool sun hat to see if it could potentially solve this problem and I am very happy to say it did! The material is a lot softer so I find when hiking. If you need to look up,down, left or right the hat moves with you and you don&#x27;t feel it getting caught on your pack. It&#x27;s also really comfortable on my head so I don&#x27;t have any pressure points and it also breathes very well that I&#x27;ve never had any problems and sometimes I actually forget that I&#x27;m wearing my hat and have almost put my climbing helmet on top of this hat. Since it&#x27;s also a softer material, if you&#x27;re switching between this hat and a climbing helmet, this packs down a lot easier than the OR had I have and when it&#x27;s time to switch back to my hat, it still maintains its shape without a problem.
