The waist is not stretchy enough to easily get in to - past my hips. My hips are not extra wide, in fact I have relatively narrow hips for the size of my waist. Once on, the shorts fit my waist and hips. It is just a twisty struggle to get them on.

These shorts are very comfortable and I love how many pockets they have! Double pockets on the left side, one pocket on the right, any of which I can fit my Samsung S20 fe in its heavy duty Otterbox case. There's also a small pocket in the waistband that would fit debit/credit/ID cards.
