An ultralight softshell designed to shield weight-conscious climbers from ridgeline gusts and light weather, the Black Diamond Alpine Start Hoody features Schoeller stretch-woven fabric to provide highly breathable and highly packable weather resistance.
A gusseted construction offers unrestricted freedom of movement, while the adjustable hood fits over a climbing helmet. The jacket also stuffs into its own chest pocket, which features an internal carabiner clip loop for attaching to your harness.

Rather than a draw string at the bottom it’s now elastic, which just makes a weird fit. I wanted to swap my old alpine for this one as I wanted a bigger size, but the new fit just isn’t worth it. I do like the pocket is on the exterior rather than the interior now though. Either way, I’ll be returning it.

After considering similar wind breakers, I bought this one. I love it so much that it fits my long body and almost wearing it every day since I got it.
I already washed once with normal detergent with cold water but DWR revived wonderfully after low tumble dry. Will see how it’ll hold up in the years to come.
