I used these snowshoes for the first time over the weekend &amp; they were very comfy &amp; easy to walk on! I didn’t realize how easy they made it to walk in the snow until I took them off and tried walking in just my winter boots. They’re lightweight (in my opinion) and relatively easy to get on and off. My only concern was the amount of wear they have after one weekend of use. On the right snowshoe beside where the front of my boot was, there is already so much wear that I wouldn’t expect after a few day’s use. I’m not sure if that’s due to how I was walking in them or the winter boots I used, but I was a bit disappointed considering the price of these snowshoes.

Easy to Use

Je les aime beaucoup mais je ne suis pas entièrement satisfaite. Elles sont faciles à mettre, enlever grâce au système boa, ne font pas de bruit, accroche super bien sûr tous types de neige mais comme je l&#x27;avais lu ailleurs elles jettent un peu de neige par l&#x27;arrière ce qui rend l&#x27;arrière de vos genoux complément trempé après quelques heures. Il faut donc porter un pantalon waterproof ce qui est dommage les beaux jours de soleil. Aussi même si le système boa est pratique il est vraiment grand pour mes petites bottes (taille 6 US) et il faut un bon talon si elles vous sortent des pieds.

Very nice but

I had a pair of Elektra snowshoes that lasted me over 20 years. When they finally died, I opted for another pair of Elektras. Although our winter hasn’t offered any snow for me to take out these new snowshoes, I can tell you why I purchased these and also what my initial concerns are (time will tell if they are borne out). 

REASONS FOR PURCHASING THIS STYLE: I like the sling-over-frame design of the Atlas Elektra. I have friends whose snowshoes are made of plastic and the noise on crusty snow is just awful — who wants to go into the woods to hear nothing but the sound of plastic on snow/ice? I also like that the binding floats a little so that the foot can change angle relative to the horizontal plane of the snowshoe. This ensures that walking up or down side-slops (with foot perpendicular to the hill) the foot does not have to roll over at the ankle to maintain its position within the snowshoe. I also appreciate that these snowshoes have quite a good weight rating so that for my purposes (day hiking only, in only moderately deep snow, with no heavy backpack) I can use a relatively short snowshoe (I am 5’6” 125lbs and purchased the 23” Elektra). I also appreciate that these shoes taper from the middle to the tail so that you don’t have to change your hip angle to avoid stepping one on top of the other. On my old Elektra’s, I adored the binding system — reliable, secure, and easy to adjust with mitts. 

CONCERNS: I don’t know whether these concerns will be borne out over time so take them with a grain of salt. My biggest concern is with the BOA binding system. While I love BOA on my cycling shoes and appreciate its convenience, it means the whole binding system on these showshoes depends on that single tiny plastic BOA lace. How well is this going to last in extreme cold?? This seems like a serious weak point. But I’m willing to take my chances for now; I hope my concerns are misplaced. The other concerns is that these snowshoes seem surprisingly heavy. They are not so heavy as to be a burden. But despite being shorter than my old Elektra’s and having a sleeker binding system they feel heavier in the hand. But, again, I haven’t worn them yet. So it might be that they are balanced so well that any weight difference from my old ones is indiscernible in practice.

These are terrific showshoes, perfect length and they have the great BOA tightening system. However, the foot straps were really hard to get around my women’s size 9 Keen boots, so I returned the snowshoes. They would fit well for women’s size 8 boot or smaller.
