I am not a perfect skier and therefore got to test the toughness of this jacket as I narrowly missed a turn and got to test it's branch impact as I slid into a tree well. I thought for sure I had ripped it in multiples spots, nope, I did however put a couple of scrapes on it that won't come off but that is fine. As for fit I am a hair under 6 feet and about 200lbs (should be closer to 185), anyways I think that size large is perfect for me and wouldn't want a medium even though it might fit.
